After graduating from Ferris State University with my B.A. in Early Childhood Development, I taught Head Start in Ionia County for 7 years. During that time, I earned my M.Ed. from Grand Valley State University in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in Curriculum Education. I enjoy building relationships with children and families and bringing a sense of community into the Portland Church of the Nazarene Child Development Center. Our program prides itself in providing high quality care in a nurturing and loving environment. I have had the privilege of working with amazing teachers and creative leaders and look forward to many more years of being with PCN CDC. In my free time, I enjoy family game night with my husband and 2 children. I also enjoy reading on the beach and camping at our favorite Michigan State Parks.

Hello! My name is Allie Kimball and I am the Lead Infant Teacher.  I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in a small college town called Upland, Indiana. I went to college at Taylor University (in Upland), and met my wonderful husband, Larry, there! He studied philosophy and I studied Christian Education and Biblical Studies. We got married in July 2014 and moved to Ionia, MI in September 2015 so Larry could begin his training to become an airline pilot and mechanic!  A few of my hobbies include cooking and baking, knitting, doing puzzles, and watching TV with my husband. I love raspberries, sharpies, a good book, and flowers!

Hi, my name is Amber Martin.  I am the lead teacher in the Transition Room and would like to welcome you to the Busy Bee class.  I have been a lead in this room for two and a half years.  I have worked for the Child Development Center for three years.  I have completed all 16 training hours for the year and am CPR and First Aid certified.  A little bit about myself.  I was born in Portland and have lived here all my life.  I recently started living on my own and I love it.  I do have a member of my family that lives with me, my puppy Ollie.  I have an older brother and sister-in-law.  I also have a niece who attends this Child Development Center.  I love that I get to see her every day.  In this room, we learn helpful sign language such as ‘more’, ‘please’, and ‘all done’.  We also play games to help with fine motor skills.  If a child starts crawling in my room, he or she will soon be walking.  We work on motor skills.  Each week we do art twice which follows a theme for this month.  We like to paint, color, and use Bingo dobs.  We also like to listen to music and dance.  During our circle time we sing our favorite songs and love to read books.  When the weather is nice we like to go outside and play in the playground or enjoy a nice walk while riding in the buggy.

Dear Families – my name is Amy Davis and I am the lead teacher for the Toddler Room.  After graduating from Portland High School, I pursued a degree in Early Childhood from Baker College in Owosso. I successfully earned my Bachelor’s Degree in 2009.  I continue to stay current yearly with CPR and First Aid training and am required to complete 16 hours of annual training focusing on Early Childhood Development.  Lesson plans for the Toddler Room are posted weekly in the classroom.  I enjoy focusing on building language skills through singing and reading.  We also enjoy art projects and weekly sensory activities.  Daily sheets are sent home letting you know what your child did during the day.  I am a loving and compassionate teacher and take care of each child as if they were my own.  Warmly – Ms. Amy

Hello! My name is Lynda Clark.  Taking care of children is one of my passions. I enjoy watching them learn and grow.  I have over 20 years of experience.  I took care of my nephew and nieces until they were in school full time, worked at a licensed daycare until it closed and I’ve been a nanny for different families through the years.  I grew up in Portland and have worked at the Portland Nazarene daycare for about 3 years now.  The Center has provided me an opportunity to learn more about child development through the classes we take and the children I take care of.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I’m married to Scott Clark and we have 3 great kids age 21 – Travis, 18 – Kayla and 9 – Christopher.  As a family we enjoy going to our cabin.  I cherish my time with my family and the children I have in my class as they grow up too fast.

Hi, my name is Bree Murphy.  I am the 3 year old Pre-School teacher. I am always on the go whether it be coaching, cheer, or training dogs. I just recently got engaged and have a 2017 wedding coming up. I enjoy spending my day with the kids. We do a lot of learning through play. The most rewarding part is getting to watch their transformation throughout the year.

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I have lived in Portland for 21 years. In the past five years, I have had the pleasure of being a part of the children’s lives I have cared for here at Portland Church of the Nazarene Child Development Center.  In the 3-year-old classroom, we enjoy playing with friends, attending Chapel, sorting color bears, counting in Spanish, and making shape sandwiches. I also enjoy teaching the children about our great state of Michigan, their favorite fact is; “We make cereal in Battle Creek, MI”.  The light in the eyes of a child reminds you how important a teacher can be in your child’s life!  Have a Blessed Day!  Ms. Cheryl
